Ruri is a descendant of modern-day humans. She is Kohaku's elder sister and the daughter of Kokuyo, and serves as the priestess in Ishigami Village.

Ruri is a gentle, kind, and noble young woman with an aggressive personality that occasionally comes out when she's not acting as priestess nor dying of pneumonia. She has incredibly strong willpower, surviving pneumonia through sheer will and Kohaku's help. In Ruri's mind, acting as priestess for the village comes first: she was willing to marry whoever won the Grand Bout as was tradition, and diligently memorized all 100 Tales in two years before her mother died. She also tried passing the tales to Kohaku before she died, but Kohaku refused, which may have helped Ruri's determination to survive rather than accept her fate of a short life. She cares a lot about Kohaku, her younger sister, and frets over her. When she noticed that Kohaku's hair was tied differently, she expresses concern over Kohaku behaving recklessly and getting into accidents. Ruri pleads to her to take care of herself better, for her sake. When they reunite after Ruri's revival, Kohaku is the first one Ruri goes to to hug. After recovering from her illness, she is shown to be just as much of a tomboy as Kohaku, breaking into a sprint as soon as she is let loose. Her keen memory and ability to learn quickly puts her in charge of building the dam. She also helps Senku with solving the mystery of where the villagers came from by pooling her knowledge of the Hundred Tales and his knowledge of the modern world.

Ruri is a descendant of modern-day humans. She is Kohaku's elder sister and the daughter of Kokuyo, and serves as the priestess in Ishigami Village. Ruri was born to the Village Chief in Ishigami Village eighteen years prior to Senku's arrival. The Hundred Tales are told to her as if they were lullabies. Two years later, Kohaku is born. As a child, she befriended Chrome, with whom she spent a lot of time playing outdoors with. At 12 years old, she gets pneumonia, and was told by the village elders that she wouldn't live long. Chrome promised her that he would search everywhere and turn every stone in the search for a cure, while Kohaku tried helping her illness by carrying hot spring water for her to bathe in. At 14, she inherits the Hundred Tales from her mother, and at 15, her mother dies. When she turns 18 years old, the first Grand Bout is held. Enhanced Memory: Able to memorize the Hundred Tales perfectly, Ruri is shown to have an incredible memory. Acute Observation: Ruri possesses sharp observation skills, noticing details such as Kohaku retying her hair, Minami's affection for Tsukasa, and noticing Chrome grew up. Religious Leadership: Ruri's position as the village priestess means that she has leadership abilities. This can be seen when she issues commands to Jasper and Turquoise during the village attack by Homura. In the anime, it was elaborated that it was her who told Kokuyo to pass his position of chief onto Senku.[Citation needed] Gorilla Strength: Ruri is shown to share Kohaku's athletic prowess, as her first instinct when she is cured is to sprint off into a field at high speed. She is also strong, as she can easily pick Kohaku up and throw her around. Handicrafts: Cooped up in the chief's hut with her illness allowed her to practice her handicraft skills, shown by her providing a sewing needle for the record player. Previously, she had also helped Gen craft the hundreds of manganese batteries for the cellphone. Resistance to Romance: Ruri appears incapable of having a romantic moment. First, she is divorced by Senku within seconds of their marriage, then has absolutely no luck with getting Chrome to acknowledge her as a potential romantic partner until the very end, where his proposal is completely tactless.
